2- Hymns- Because He Lives

One of my favourite sounds to hear around our home is the sound of our littles singing hymns.

There is something about hearing profound truths coming out of the mouth of babes that stirs my soul.

We have long taught hymns to our kids, putting them to sleep singing rock or ages or be thou my vision.

When my 2.5 year old tried to put her sister to sleep once while rocking her and singing her little rendition of rock of ages, my heart melt into a little puddle.  But what is beyond the cuteness of little kids using big old english words like 'cleft' and 'thee' is that some lyrics come alive a new way when they are sung by a carefree child.

Yesterday morning my eight year old daughter came out of her room singing  a new chorus

"Because He lives, I can face tomorrow!

Because He lives, All fear is gone.

Because I knowwwwwww He holds the future, And life is worth the living,

Just because He lives!"

There was something almost humerous about it in my mind- a little kid singing such anxious defeating truths. Why would my eight year old daughter have any worry about facing tomorrow? Why would she have such consuming fear about the future? I literally take care of her every need! Then, as often does when I start to lecture my children in my head,  the conviction hit. Am I not God's child? Does he not take care of my literal every need? Do I still not at times fear? Am I still not often anxious about tomorrow? Why am I?

Those truths are not any less true for her as they are for me.

When looking into the other verses of the hymn that are less famillar, I found this one:

Verse 2

How sweet to hold

A newborn baby,

And feel the pride

And joy he brings;

But greater still

The calm assurance:

This child can face

Uncertain days because He Lives!

There is nothing more calm and peaceful then a newborn baby who is wholly contented and sleeping in a love ones arms. Compeltely worry - free, in full trust. When I realise how often the words 'fear not' or 'don't be axious' appares in the scriptures (hundreds of times) ,

I begin to believe thats what God's desire for our heart postures to be as His children, as peacefully contended in our father's arms as a newborn babe, because He lives.
